Tech Rebounds, Major Indexes Rise
A significant rebound in technology shares lifted major stock indexes, restoring some calm to the markets after a rough end to the previous week. Stocks rallied following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not seek reelection, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate. Analysts suggest this shift may have spurred the rally among the ‘Magnificent Seven’ tech stocks, as Harris is perceived as more favorable to big tech than former President Trump.
Chip stocks led the charge after experiencing a downturn last week. Nvidia surged by 4.8% following a Reuters report that the chipmaker is developing a version of its AI chips compatible with U.S. export controls to China. This move came from the 50-day moving average, which we suggested monitoring for a bounce last week.

The rally coincides with the start of a busy earnings week, including the first look at second-quarter GDP and the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation measure for June.
The Week Ahead
The Nasdaq rebounded from its second-worst week of the year, driving a tech-fueled stock rally. The Nasdaq gained 1.6%, while the S&P 500 climbed 1.1%, reclaiming its 21-day exponential moving average. The Dow Jones Industrial Average underperformed, rising 128 points, or 0.3%. The Russell 2000 also saw a 1.6% increase.

Advancing stocks outnumbered decliners by nearly 3-to-1 on the New York Stock Exchange and approximately 11-to-5 on the Nasdaq. Trading volume increased on the Nasdaq while declining on the NYSE.
