Stocks Climb as Trade Optimism and Earnings Fuel Broad Market Rally; TSX Rises to Five-Week High on Energy Surge
Major Indexes Extend Gains Amid U.S.-U.K. Deal and Crypto Surge
Stocks posted a second straight day of solid gains Thursday, as global markets responded favorably to a fresh U.S.-U.K. trade agreement, upbeat earnings results, and renewed risk-on sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 254 points, or 0.6%, while the S&P 500 also added 0.6%. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.1%, supported by strength in technology and high-growth names. Small caps joined the advance, with the Russell 2000 surging 1.9%.
While all of the major indexes pushed above their bullish flag formations highlighted in last night’s report, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite briefly cleared short-term highs before pulling back, stopping short of their 200-day moving averages, a critical technical barrier. In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Russell 2000 closed decisively above their 50-day moving averages, underscoring improving breadth and broader market participation.

Adding to the momentum, the crypto market exploded after hours, with Bitcoin surpassing $100,000, reigniting speculation and fueling gains in related equities. The daily setups section of this report is loaded with crypto-linked names showing strong technical behavior and rising institutional interest.
Bitcoin – Daily Chart
Volume increased on both the Nasdaq and NYSE, and seven of the eleven S&P 500 sectors closed higher, led by consumer discretionary, industrials, and technology. Laggards included health care, which declined 0.9%.
The Red-Light/Green-Light Breadth System
The 10-year Treasury yield climbed sharply by 10 basis points to 4.37%, reflecting growing economic confidence.
10-Year US Treasury Yield
TSX Advances to Highest Level Since Early April
The TSX Composite Index climbed 92.88 points, or 0.4%, to close at 25,254.06, marking a five-week high amid a resurgence in energy stocks and better-than-expected corporate earnings. Oil prices rallied 3.2% to $59.91 per barrel, lifting the energy sector by 2.8%.
Shares of Cenovus Energy (CVE.TO) spiked 9.1% after beating Wall Street estimates despite a drop in first-quarter profit, while Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ.TO) rose 5% after posting record output and a strong earnings beat.
Elsewhere, BCE Inc. (BCE.TO) gained 5.4% as investors cheered its earnings beat and strategic dividend cut, a move seen as positioning the company for long-term capital efficiency and renewed institutional interest. Gains in technology (+1.4%), industrials (+1.1%), and financials (+0.7%) contributed to the rally, while materials dragged, down 1.3% amid weaker gold prices.

Trump Showcases ‘Historic’ Trade Pact as Market Watches China Talks
President Donald Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented a new trade deal between the two nations, calling it “historic” and “comprehensive.” The agreement includes tariff relief on select goods and a drop in auto tariffs from 25% to 10%, with the U.K. committing to increased purchases of U.S. products, including Boeing aircraft and agricultural goods.
Trump stated that the deal could trigger up to $10 trillion in investments in the U.S. and hinted at upcoming agreements with China and the European Union. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to meet with Chinese officials in Switzerland this weekend, adding to investor hopes for further easing of trade tensions.
However, enthusiasm cooled late in the session after Bloomberg reported that Trump is pressing GOP lawmakers to back a tax increase on those earning over $2.5 million annually, casting a shadow on the day’s bullish tone.
Earnings Floodgates Open; Growth and Tech Lead
After the close, several key earnings moved stocks in extended hours. Lyft (LYFT), Cloudflare (NET), Toast (TOST), Insulet (PODD), and Pinterest (PINS) were among the winners, while Coinbase (COIN), Affirm (AFRM), and Expedia (EXPE) lagged.
Broad Strength Builds, But Resistance Levels Loom
Thursday’s session confirmed the return of broad market strength, led by earnings winners, trade optimism, and resurgent speculative appetite fueled by a soaring crypto market. With Bitcoin breaking above $100,000, capital rotated into crypto-related equities, many of which are featured in the setups section of this report.
However, with major indexes just below their 200-day moving averages, traders are watching for confirmation. The expansion in leadership breadth, high-volume technical setups, and strength in small caps suggest the market is preparing for a potential breakout — but headlines around tax policy and international trade could still alter the trajectory.
Cautious optimism remains the prevailing tone. Stay alert, remain selective, and monitor for sustained moves above key technical levels to confirm a durable trend.

Now, onto the daily setups.
US Daily Setups
BTDR – Bitdeer Technologies Group
The Bitdeer setup is exploding higher from the pattern we’ve been highlighting, with price action now up nearly 100% since we initially flagged the unusual bullish option activity at the bottom of the structure. Since appearing in the Daily Setups, BTDR has served as a strong example of how setups can evolve when following the system rules outlined at the top of each report. As price action consolidated above upward-sloping moving averages, it created a coiling effect between support and horizontal resistance—ultimately leading to a powerful breakout. This move also underscores how bottoming setups paired with the PPO momentum indicator pressing against, and then breaking above, the zero line can signal a meaningful shift in trend.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/nMyfewFJ
DEFTF – DeFi Technologies Inc.
DeFi Technologies is positioning just below its 52-week high. Monitor for any potential breakout signals as price action holds near this key resistance level.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/iRAUDnts
HOOD – Robinhood Markets Inc.
Robinhood is now pushing above the next horizontal resistance line, offering a strong example of how the system rules outlined at the top of each page can play out. The setup was first flagged as price action began to rebound from the 200-day moving average. It then broke out from the wedge, consolidated along the upper trendline, and eventually saw a moving average cross. Since then, price action has continued to walk above its upward-sloping moving averages, supporting the strength of the move. Monitor for continued momentum as the trend progresses.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/QYEyqPeq
MBLY – Mobileye Global Inc.
Mobileye, featured in the April 25 Weekend Report alongside several names experiencing bullish option activity, is now attempting to break out from the bottoming pattern we highlighted. While it hasn’t exploded higher like some of the other setups from that report, price action is beginning to move, with the PPO momentum indicator also attempting to break out above the zero line. Monitor for signs of follow-through as the setup develops.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/shErCZNK
QBTS – D-Wave Quantum Inc.
D-Wave Quantum is another chart from the April 25 Weekend Report that was experiencing bullish option activity. We’ve continued to highlight the setup as additional option flow appeared, and today, price action is up over 50%. It’s now setting up for a potential breakout to a new 52-week high. Monitor for signs of continued strength as momentum builds.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/vhhEWNcN
RGTI – Rigetti Computing, Inc.
Rigetti Computing continues to set up along a significant horizontal resistance line, which could also be considered a trigger level. Watch for any potential breakout signals as price action holds near this key area.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/zzIgyTfj
SEZL – Sezzle Inc.
Sezzle is another setup we’ve been consistently sharing, with price action developing just below the upper trendline of its consolidation and continuation pattern. This serves as another strong example of how the system rules can play out: the moving averages crossed within the pattern, and since the bullish cross occurred, price action has steadily walked above its upward-sloping moving averages. Today’s gap higher off earnings further confirms the strength of the move. Monitor for follow-through as momentum continues.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/jSUmPefh
TOST – Toast Inc.
Toast is another setup we’ve been highlighting, and today’s price action coiled tightly, aligning well with the system rules we’ve been tracking. After hours, the stock is gapping higher on a strong earnings report. This setup reinforces how coiling action near key levels, combined with supportive technicals, can lead to sharp moves when a catalyst appears. Monitor for follow-through as the move develops.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/FgzssbcU
TSLA – Tesla Inc.
Tesla is setting up just below its next trigger line—monitor for any potential breakout signals. It’s also worth noting that Tesla holds a sizable Bitcoin position, reportedly over 10,000 BTC, and this setup is unfolding as Bitcoin surges higher, which could act as a secondary catalyst.

Canadian Daily Setups
BTQ.NE – BTQ Technologies Corp.
BTQ Technologies continues to set up as the broader sector appears to be catching a bid. The stock is also tied to Bitcoin through its focus on digital security, which could attract attention if momentum in crypto-related names continues.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/ImYgKSgW
CBIT.V – Cathedra Bitcoin Inc – Ordinary Shares (Sub Voting)
The Cathedra Bitcoin setup experienced another day of robust volume as the PPO momentum indicator approaches the underside of the zero line. Monitor to see if the indicator can begin to break out above zero, which could support a shift in momentum as the setup continues to develop.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/ACAJpfZN
DEFI.NE – DeFi Technologies Inc.
DeFi Technologies is now pushing above the final horizontal resistance line we’ve been charting, with price action positioning itself near its 52-week high. Monitor for any potential breakout signals as the setup continues to strengthen.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/zrBPYtBr
HODL.CA – Sol Strategies Inc.
Sol Strategies is now set up to potentially break out above the next horizontal resistance line from the chart we’ve been tracking. Monitor for any signs of upside momentum as price action approaches this key level.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/SnPthuMK
HUT.TO – Hut 8 Mining Corp
Hut 8 Mining is positioning itself for a potential bottoming pattern breakout that we’ve been highlighting. Take note of the volume pattern—up days have been supported by robust volume, while down days have shown minimal selling pressure. Monitor for any potential breakout signals as this constructive setup continues to take shape.
LINK TO CHART – https://schrts.co/cxBFVCPE
NDA.V – Neptune Digital Assets Corp.
Neptune Digital is now attempting to break out above the next horizontal resistance line of the pattern we’ve been charting. Monitor for signs of sustained momentum as price action challenges this key level.
