Stocks Rally Ahead of Key Data and Bank Earnings, Bitcoin ETFs Gain SEC Approval
In a subdued trading session on Wednesday, major stock indexes experienced gains in anticipation of crucial inflation data and upcoming bank earnings. Treasury yields remained relatively stable, with the benchmark 10-year yield hovering just above 4%. The Nasdaq Composite continued its upward trend, propelled by positive developments in META and MSFT setups.

The S&P 500 rose by 0.6%, closing within 0.3% of its all-time high while surging higher from our bull flag retest of the 21-exponential day moving average. Similarly, the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.8%, building on the momentum from the bull flag breakout retest highlighted in the recent weekend report. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also posted a 0.5% increase.

The Russell 2000 initially faced a 0.7% early loss but managed to recover, closing 0.1% higher for the day as price action appears to also be set up in the form of a bull flag breakout retest. Despite this, the total market value of stocks in the Russell 2000, standing at around $2.7 trillion, is eclipsed by the individual valuation of Apple stock alone, which reached $2.9 trillion on Wednesday.

In the bond market, yields on the 10-Year Treasury note rose by 0.013 percentage points to 4.030%. A less-than-robust auction of the 10-year bond may contribute to potential upward movements in yields.

A significant development in the cryptocurrency space occurred today, as the Securities and Exchange Commission approved rule changes allowing the trading of spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Eleven spot bitcoin ETFs, including Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (BTCO), Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC), ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB), VanEck Bitcoin Trust (HODL), Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), and WisdomTree Bitcoin Fund (BTCW), are set to commence trading on Thursday. This approval is anticipated to attract increased institutional support for bitcoin. Attention now shifts to Ethereum, with the possibility of it being the next cryptocurrency to receive approval for a spot ETF. Daily setups have been featuring the Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETHE) and the Purpose Ether ETF (ETHH.TO) as potential beneficiaries of this trend.
